Fat Burners
Hydroxycut Products
Hydroxycut is a product that has been on the market for many, many years, and has gained much notoriety as a effective fat-burner. However recently, the FDA issued a statement urging the recall of all Hydroxycut branded products, as they have been linked to liver damage.
For a good number of years, Hydroxycut was my product of choice for trimming down, and cutting up for the summer months. However with the recent findings and statements made by the FDA linking Hydroxycut to liver damage, you can be sure I won't be taking it any longer.
In a reaction to the FDA statements, the company who produces Hydroxycut, lovate Health Sciences Inc, issued a voluntary recall of the following products:
- Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
- Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
- Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
- Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
- Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
- Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
- Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs
- Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
- Hydroxycut 24
- Hydroxycut Carb Control
- Hydroxycut Natural
The FDA has stated that the liver damage is a rare occurance, but in the instances where damage did occur, the patients were not abusing the product, rather they were taking the recommended dosages.
The number of adverse event reports described by the FDA is small relative to the many millions of people who have used Hydroxycut products over the 7 years referenced by the FDA. Iovate’s own assessment of the potential risk associated with the use of these products differs from that expressed by the Agency. Every product marketed by Iovate is evaluated during its development for the safety of its individual ingredients. Additionally, independent third-party experts from the leading independent scientific firm specializing in ingredient assessment, toxicology and product safety for the nutritional and pharmaceutical industry review the safety of Iovate’s ingredients and formulas before products are introduced in the marketplace. Only after this external review is completed does Iovate release a formula.
One thing that bothers me is that the FDA has not released, nor have they even determined what ingredient in the Hydroxycut products is responsible for causing the liver damage. Many of the fat-burners on the market share a lot of the same base chemicals. Who knows what other products could contain similar ingredients as Hydroxycut, and cause the same, if not worse health problems.
One thing I can be sure of, I will immediately stop taking all fat-burners, theromgenics, you name it. I'm going back to old school methods for sheding weight.....eating right and exercising regularly.
